A paradise
Throughout history, the concept of paradise was a significant concept. Its power lies in its ability to make the human experience meaningful and enduring regardless of the fact that it is always temporary. Paradise is a place of absolute peace and abundance. It is a place that is not part of normal historical time and therefore is not subject to sickness, crime or death. It is also a place that is populated by eternally young and healthy people.
Paradise is described in a variety of ways, from the Garden of Eden of the Bible to the lush Pacific Ocean islands of novels and Gauguin's paintings. Even in modern times, the rise of communes and renewed interest in outdoor and gardening can be considered to be a manifestation of paradise. The term utopia, actually, invokes images of paradise. Although not all utopias have religious connotations, they typically include motifs from paradise. They are also designed to attain some of the qualities and characteristics of paradise in reality.
There are a variety of meanings for the word paradise, but most of them define a state of absolute beauty or enjoyment. It can also be the ideal place for a particular activity or pastime. For example the golfer's paradise or a hummingbird's paradise. In the context of religion it could be a reference to heaven, the abode of the righteous after death.
Different languages have used the word paradise, however it was originally derived from the ancient Iranian language of Avestan. The word is pairidaeza, or "walled enclosure," from the roots pairi, "around," and daeza, "wall." It became part of the Hebrew and other Aramaic scriptures, such as paradeisos. It was later was later adapted to Greek, where it became paradise.
In the Bible, paradise is the Garden of Eden, where the first couple lived in a beautiful environment that was free from disease and death. When they rebelled against God and sinned they lost their paradise. In later Bible prophecies, heaven is seen as a place in the eschatological future where people who are happy will live forever. The word paradise can also refer to a state of emotional or spiritual happiness and joy.
